Barbour x The Smart Dresser
Barbour

It was John Barbour who founded his weatherproof clothing company in 1894 in the northern English port town of South Shields. As the son of a farming family, who grew up in the rugged Scotland, he appreciated hard-wearing clothing and began producing it for fishermen, dock workers, and sailors. By exporting to the numerous British colonies, the company was able to make a name for itself and continually expanded its product range. In 1974, Barbour received the first "Royal Warrant," the seal of the Duke of Edinburgh, and became a purveyor to the English royal family. Even today, the brand remains extremely popular with members of the Royal Family. It is not uncommon to see Prince Charles, Kate Middleton, or even "the Queen herself" wearing jackets from the Scottish label on excursions in the country.

Classic Barbour wax jackets – Wax Jackets

Barbour is best known for its classic and functional wax and quilted jackets, such as the Barbour Bedale and Barbour Beaufort models. These are traditionally produced exclusively "Made in England" and are characterized by their high quality and durability. Equally recognizable are the classic tartan patterns, which, in reference to the Scottish clan affiliation, are used on almost all products. Whether it's a Barbour knitted sweater, scarf, umbrella, hip flask, or on the inside of jackets and shirts - the patterns make each item a unique eye-catcher. The wax layer of the rain-repellent jackets disappears under the influence of wind, weather, and use, but even worn jackets can be repaired and refreshed. The wax can be purchased from The Smart Dresser and applied yourself. Of course, Barbour professionals are also available to take on this work. To this day, Barbour items are repaired and re-waxed in South Shields, England. The jackets, some of which are 40 years old, tell their own story.

Whether it's the forester on the hunt or the young, fashionable city dweller – Barbour connects generations and, despite its international fame, remains true to its line and always a timeless British classic.
